[August 9th, 2006] The summer of bad ideas has struck a rather embarassing blow to POMMEL. Their otherwise well-oiled POMMELmobile was brutalized by the July heat and ended up inoperable by the time they were scheduled for some relatively close midwest gigs. Billy, at least, got to make up for it by jumping on the CARPET OF SEXY/IT'S A TRAP tour send-off gig at the Big Horse this past Sunday and do a short WILLIAM SIDES ATARI PARTY set. SOFT SERVE and ROTTEN MILK also played, as did INSECT DELI, joined by NYC's MADAME CHAO for some awesome sound n' video conglomeration. Much luck to CARPET OF SEXY and IT'S A TRAP on tour! On a lighter note, POMMEL will be performing this Friday with PIASA, PANDA EXPRESS, BANISTERIOPSIS and Mike Krause's other band with Jenzi called MORLOKK. This will be POMMEL's first gig with new, semi-permanent, 4th member Bridget O'Hern. Watch out guys, this bitch bites! TRUMANS WATER will be doing a west coast tour next month with OLD TIME RELIJUN! We've got a few dates listed so far for Portland, San Diego and L.A. and more dates should be added soon. Stay tuned! [July 18th, 2006] Okay, we finally got paypal settled. Email payments to nosidesrecords@yahoo.com. If yer out of the country please get in touch first. Our stuff is cheap. Please buy it. We like to eat. [June 28th, 2006] No Sides welcomes LIL PRINCESS to the fold. LIL PRINCESS is the lovely and deranged Meg McCarville who is replacing JA-MO JA-MO on the split with INSECT DELI. She just had her first performance ever at the Reversible Eye with POMMEL, MOTH GUTS, BE BAD and GILBERT SWITZER on June 24th and she'll be performing again on July 1st with HAZMAT, SIBERIA, CLIMAX DENIAL and RICKY KASSO. Read her blogs, they are awesome. POMMEL had 2 successful gigs on the 24th and are getting ready to finish the recording for the split CD w/LEX TALIONIS. This is sure to be an insane record. POMMEL are spending the rest of the summer recording for a split cassette with MR. FUCKHEAD and doing some weekend excursion tours with INSECT DELI and/or SOFT SERVE. Speaking of which, you can go to Eleanor's MySpace page and check out selected rough mixes for songs that will be on her new album. They sound really great. Several years ago, No Sides was going to release the definitive full-length MAX CLOUD album and due to our hectic schedule and Tony's hectic life we lost touch and the LP ended up on the back-burner. It looks like we will finally get it out in the fall in some kind of form or fashion. Tony's going to be touring as HAZMAT throughout the summer and we'll be discussing it with him very soon. Hopefully we're gonna get Tony to do some studio recordings while here in Chicago for some kind of HAZMAT or SIBERIA release as well. There's been a hold-up on some of the new releases. We're sorry but you can't dictate innovation. They'll be out soon. The fall is looking like another exciting season of homework, music and the ritualistic slaughter of small woodland creatures. Stay tuned... [April 28th, 2006] We have 2 more small releases to announce and then we'll probably chill out until the fall when we do the SOFT SERVE LP and the LEX TALIONIS/POMMEL split CD. These are also going to be out in a few weeks. NS 21 - WARMTH Cassette: Psyche-drone duo featuring Steve (ROXANNE JEAN POLISE) and Branden (KNIFE CITY). We haven't gotten the master for this yet but expect it not too long after they both get back from tour. C-46 for $5. NS 22 - DEATH CAB FOR SPUNKY/SOUNDS HAPPY + WILLIAM SIDES Split Cassette: SPUNKY side will be Daniel Park w/ drummer extraordinaire and all-around hot chick Jenzi. SOUNDS HAPPY is Dan Demchuk from THE GUILD OF ACQUIRED TECHNOLOGY. William Sides is nobody. Dan and Billy plugged some shit in and hit record; the rest is history. This tape is gonna be ultra-limited-- 30 copies or so. C-46 for $5. [April 20th, 2006] Happy 4/20 Day! There's going to be some new releases coming out in about a month or less. Peep this: NS 18 - INSECT DELI/LIL PRINCESS Split Cassette: Brand new material from both Julia Gilman(of CRIPPLED INSECTUAL and WINTER CAROUSEL) and Sex Wrecks columnist Meg McCarville. This is quite possibly the weirdest split you will ever hear. C-46 cassette for $5. NS 19 - THE MASH DOWN CHRONICLES- Vols. 1-4 CD Box Set: Utterly insane sound-collages performed live on the WZRD Chicago 88.3 FM radio station (same place where the MISS HIGH HEEL performance was recorded) by Judson Coleman and Billy Sides with guests and friends. 2-plus hours of sheer retardation created by multi-layerings of turntables, cds, tapes, vhs tapes and live instruments. 4 CDs in some kind of cool packaging to be determined for $15. Limited to 50 copies. NS 20 - COCK E.S.P./POMMEL Split Cassingle: Brand new recording by Matt, Emil and Elyse w/ equally new POMMEL material. Limited to 100 copies. $4. As we all know, Twig Harper's place in Baltimore Tarantula Hill burnt down on St. Patrick's Day while he was in NYC with Carly. We've been setting up some benefit shows around the midwest and elsewheres. A huge show went down last Friday in Chicago at the Ex-Nihilist spot. It was written up in the Chicago Reader by Liz Armstrong- here's what she said: "TARANTULA HILL BENEFIT Last month Chicago expats Carly Ptak and Twig Harper of Nautical Almanac suffered a major fire at their Baltimore home, Tarantula Hill, which doubled as an art space, studio, and venue. They lost almost everything--master tapes, artwork, instruments, DATs, hard drives, recording equipment, homemade electronic gadgets, even their three cats. And like many artists who've built their dreams on a shoestring, they didn't have insurance--their wood-burning stove meant they couldn't get coverage. This show is the first in a series of noise benefits to help Twig and Carly rebuild; the next is April 29 at Enemy. Tonight's enormous bill includes local trio Pommel, a Billy Sides production that's less rambunctious than his other noise projects--they play a kind of smooth ambience with a dash of pre-cum urgency--as well as Andy Ortmann, aka Panicsville, making his first Chicago appearance since returning from a seven-month stay in New Jersey. The entire lineup, headliner first: Bloodyminded, Lambsbread, Panicsville, Pommel, I Don't Do Gentlemen, Rubber Spunky, Warmth (a collaboration between Roxanne Jean Polise and Knife City), Insect Deli, Is, B29, and DJ Rotten Milk." We raised a few hundred dollars at this show and this weekend we're looking at some gigs in Milwaukee and Madison. If you got a few extra bucks please help the NAUTICAL ALMANAC gang out and paypal them some bread at hello@heresee.com. [March 7th, 2006] There is a new POMMEL CD EP out now of recordings made at the end of January. Total hi-fi cacophony! Buy it up from the site or get it from us at the show! The prices for the new stuff are: POMMEL CD EP- $4, WILLIAM SIDES ATARI PARTY CD- $5, SILVER CORD/POMMEL tape- $5 [February 1st, 2006] Oh my God - it's 2006 already! The WILLIAM SIDES ATARI PARTY CD is out and the SILVER CORD/POMMEL split cassette is out. SILVER CORD is master circuit bender Daniel Park's duo with Cinci bud Mike Hancock. They play lots of cool homemade junk. POMMEL is Billy Sides' new group with Michael Krause of DEATH FACTORY and new kid on the block Bruno Martinez on modified electronics and processed percussion. This split cassette is limited to 99 copies. Daniel Park is residing in the Chicago area for a few months and playing as SPUNKY TOOFERS. POMMEL and SPUNKY TOOFERS both played a gig recently with Twig Harper's brother Caleb and M AX NOI MACH at the Beauty Shop which was super-rad. Eleanor Balson, AKA: Miss SOFT SERVE headlined the show and it was there that Billy and Eleanor talked about doing a record again. So, No Sides welcomes SOFT SERVE back to the roster! We will probably be doing an LP which will be limited to 300 copies. Pretty soon we'll get up some mp3s for all the new bands! We have about 20 copies left of the Vol. 1 Twig LP at this time. It's safe to assume that all the other labels that had a hand in the release of the record are now out of them. Twig's band NAUTICAL ALMANAC literally covered the Earth last year with extended tours in both Europe and the U.S. Nothing but M-A-D P-R-O-P-S!!! NO DOCTORS are doing their thang in the Bay area. They have a new 7" out on what might be their own label Yik Yak- not sure actually. TERROR AT THE OPERA went incommunicado for quite a while after their tour with SATURDAY LOOKS GOOD TO ME and we didn't find out til a while later that, yes, they have in fact broken up. Sadness permeates... Pages will be updated soon and we promise to get back into the Paypal swing this year. We'll have more news for youz when the SOFT SERVE LP gets closer to seeing the light of day. |
