TRUMANS WATER
The Singles 1992-1997

Why haven't I heard this band before? I know I've read about them and have been familiar with the name for some time now but for some reason I had never heard their music. It seems like such a crime too because Trumans Water are pretty fucking great. As much influenced by punk, no wave, and slacker indie rock, Trumans Water sound as if they got together once a week to write some really great songs and then spent the rest of the week trying to fuck them up as much as they could while trying to retain the elements that made the songs great in the first place. So you end up with some lazily art damaged music that still remains succinct and ready to explode if agitated. There are a number of other bands that come to mind with a similar intent in writing music (US Maple, Drive Like Jehu, Pavement) but only Trumans Water sound like Trumans Water and this singles collection is a great way for someone unfamiliar with the San Diego group (like myself) to get with it and for fans to get your hands on some difficult to find music. Songs like "Silver Tongue Please" and "Hey Fish" make me want to do something hideous to myself for not getting on this years ago.
